Cancer Research UK RadNet Leeds

Who we are

The Leeds Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Radiotherapy Centre of Excellence (RadNet Leeds) is one of a UK wide network of Radiotherapy Research Centres of Excellence. Our mission is to deliver smarter and kinder radiotherapy treatments, that are more specific to the individual patient and their tumour, using the latest radiotherapy technology and research. These treatments will reduce side effects and improve survival. We will do this through research that happens in the laboratory as well in face-to-face research with patients.

Our Vision

  • To deliver physically and biologically informed stratified and personalised radiotherapy in the primary curative and re-irradiation treatment setting to reduce toxicity and improve survival for cancer patients.

  • Support and train the next generation of researchers – using our outstanding multidisciplinary training environment.

Professor Ann Henry

Professor, Clinical Oncology

Staff Profile: Professor Ann Henry | School of Medicine | University of Leeds

I am a Professor in Clinical Oncology at the University of Leeds and Honorary Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I specialise in the radiation treatment of urological cancers. My research optimises radiation treatments to improve overall survival and reduce treatment related side effects.

My research interests are personalised radiotherapy delivery, radiotherapy clinical trials and patient reported outcomes. My technical radiotherapy research areas are optimising treatment delivery for pelvic cancers by incorporating MR imaging, using Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) and delivering image guided brachytherapy (IGBT). I am the lead for training our future leaders in cancer treatment and radiotherapy research.

Professor David Sebag-Montefiore

Professor of Clinical Oncology

Staff Profile: Professor David Sebag-Montefiore | School of Medicine | University of Leeds

I am an academic clinical oncologist at the University of Leeds and an honorary Clinical Oncologist at Leeds Cancer Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I lead the Leeds Radiotherapy Research Group, located in the Leeds Institute of Medicine at St James’s University Hospital and I am a Clinical Director of the Leeds Clinical Trial Research Unit.

I have an extensive portfolio of practice-changing innovative clinical trials focussing on gastrointestinal cancer with a focus on rectal and anal cancer.

My research interests include :

  • the personalisation of radiotherapy for primary and recurrent lower gastrointestinal cancers;
  • integration of translational research questions into clinical trials and developing designs that use biomarkers to stratify or determine novel treatment
  • achieving greater scientific depth of the analysis of clinical trials including impact and precision radiotherapy – to optimise the technical and patient focused delivery of radiotherapy for primary and recurrent rectal and anal cancer. This includes use of Patient Reported Outcomes in clinical trial and non-trial patients.

I am also a determined advocate for the development of our future leaders in radiotherapy research.
